Building Campfires:

How to Build Durable Communities in a Divided and Lonely Era

Full-Day Interactive Workshop Led by Author and Leadership Advisor Charles Vogl

History teaches us that to create meaningful change, significant impact, and spark consequential movements that stand the test of time, we must first connect, empathize, and understand together.  Building a community requires leaders and vision.

  • You will leave leveled-up in your ability to connect the colleagues, neighbors and collaborators you care about in ways that support, mature and even heal them in the ways they seek.

  • You’ll know exactly what you can do next to destroy the isolation and disconnection that surrounds you in your schools, neighborhoods and profession.

  • You’ll leave feeling confident and inspired to take action to connect yourself and others into satisfying relationships that matter.

This day-long event is designed to share time tested tools and principles for any leader to connect critical people for resilience and strength.  Participants will experience an exciting day full of learning, community building, and sharing perspectives.

This event will leave participants with life changing new tools and a vision that connects them with the people who matter to us most.

Session Details

Whether you are a first responder, a tech giant, medical professional, or a budding entrepreneur, you are part of your community.  Your participation matters, and during these lonely times, your contribution has the power to create meaningful, memorable experiences that will connect you to your people, in a way that builds you up, and shares your purpose.

Each session shares insight and tools that you can use to The sessions are interactive experiences where we explore how time tested wisdom applies to the people and leadership each of us is working with now.

  • Recognize Community & Community Leadership: We will learn to recognize what community building means in contrast to list building, “engagement counting” and audience growing. This will allow us to recognize where there is already an unacknowledged community and what we’re inspired to create that will make a difference. We will explore how durable communities help us grow into who we want to be.

  • Invitation: We will distinguish the power, features and efficacy of powerful invitations that lead to meaningful experiences. They’re the tool that start all communities. We’ll reveal why many can’t even recognize them and distinguish them from announcements.

  • Campfire Principle: We will recognize the kind of experiences that knit people together to form connections and caring. We will explore these kinds of intimate events and reveal how easily we can create them for the people we care about in many contexts.

  • 3 AM Friends: We will articulate the kind of relationships that most or all of us want people in our community who will respond in an emergency. The world will be different when everyone knows there are people ready to help when they need it. We’ll explore how we can build these kinds of relationships for ourselves and others as we bring people together.

What People Are Saying

It was a reflective experience in that it allowed for authentic emotional and communal connections with complete strangers. However, It is what you allow it to be. He does a great job of disarming you and if you can enter into that space saying you’re going to choose to be vulnerable and truly engage in the process of being honest with complete strangers it can be transformative.
Thank you for providing a space for complete strangers to grow closer together.
— Wellington Andrees, Milken Community Schools
Charles spoke about an issue of great concern to me as a parent and as an educator. I am not only inspired, I am motivated to take action. Community won’t build itself, and there’s so much to do, especially post-pandemic.
— Diana Owen, Pine Point School
Simple concepts manifested in a profound, intersectional, and actionable way that can empower us to foster belonging in personal and professional environments. What I learned today was life changing!
He has a gift and was born to do this. I look forward to inviting him to speak for my healthcare organization.
